Do you have ideas of how you would like your home to look like but feel that the cost will be too much? Or perhaps you are constrained by the fact that it is not your house since you are renting it and hence you are hesitant about giving it a makeover.
Giving your home a makeover does not require a lot of money as you probably might think, and even if you are renting it you can still give it a little bit of your own style.
You do not need to makeover the whole house at once since you can start with the sitting room and work your way from there. The first thing you should do is get a design in mind and shop around to see what will work for your space and your budget. Your ideal design should that which will work for you and the space you are making over. For instance, don’t go with too many colors and styles (polka dots, stripes, circles). The colors should blend well with each other.
You do not have to change the color of your wall; but should work with it, that is, if your wall is green, try to get curtains or sofa sets to match. Do not get a picture or painting that does not compliment your wall color for you will be forced to change the whole design.
When making over any room in your house, pay close attention to the main furniture in the room (sofa set, bed, wall unit, etc.) For a sitting room with green walls (a most dramatic color and hard to color code with others), make the sofa set the focal point in the room and try getting either plain green sofa sets or printed sofa sets, with green as the dominant color. The curtains should either be darker than the sofa sets, or lighter and not the same shade to ensure that the room does not look dull. Rather, you should use contrasting colors (lighter than or darker than) to get the feel of a brighter room. The carpet can have green as the main color; or for a different feel you may opt to use cream as the dominant color interspersed with little potions of green. For the side table, you can go for the glass-top tables or a light brown table. The wall unit should be either glass or wood, preferably to match the side table. This item should not be necessarily new but can be refurbished. You can also get new sit covers for the sofa sets so as to have more colors to play with.
You can also use vases and flower pots to give character to the room. The same applies to the other rooms in the house. If you change the color of the main furniture and match the color of the coverings and curtains, the room will have a new look.
